Styling Guide

Deciding what to wear for your session can seem overwhelming, and is often the most stressful portion of the prep- but it doesn't have to be.

I will be updating our website periodically with a Client Closet Gallery, please check out the Client Closet- all items are included in your Session Fee.

This page is intended to be a guide, whatever you choose to wear, I'm here to document.

I’m Here to Help

Brainstorm!

Brainstorm with me! I'm here for you! Please always feel free to send me screenshots or links of outfit considerations, snap a selfie or take a pic of everyone’s outfits, look at the whole picture, group everyone’s outfit and make sure everything coordinates, ask my opinion. We will work together to make sure everything is stress free and beautifully coordinated the day of your session.

Plan Ahead!

If you are ordering online, allow plenty of time for items to arrive. Try on the outfits to make sure everything fits and is free of stains or wrinkles. Having everything ready in advance creates a much more relaxed session day.

Keep your location and weather in mind!

Style yourself (and family) according to the location of the session- ask yourself if the outfit fits the theme and vibe you’re trying to accomplish.

Dress your kids appropriately for the temperature outside- if it’s chilly: layer, layer layer… mitts and a hat may be necessary to keep them happy-For those cold winters I always bring blankets and wrap everyone that is not being photographed at the moment :)

Be Comfortable!

Wear something that allows you to laugh, run, dance, sit on the ground and play with your kids without being self conscious about what you’re wearing. Wear clothes that make you feel your best and that represent you 100%.

Style Mom First!

Determine what mom is going to wear and build everyone else’s outfits around that. The planning will go much smoother!

Be Mindful of Diapers and Underwears!

In the midst of tickles and playing during your session, chances are the under garments will be exposed. To prevent those oopsie! moments, diaper covers or shorts under the dress/skirt is encouraged.

Think About Your Image Display!

When choosing colors and tones, ask yourself how it will coordinate with your home once it becomes Wall Art.

Don’t Reinvent the Wheel!

Don’t hesitate to pull inspiration from Instagram, Facebook & Pinterest! The best way to know what’s trending or what you love is to start gathering images that speak to you. Don’t know how to find what you’re looking for? Try a IG search for #familyphotographer #familyphotography #maternityphotography #clientcloset to start.

AVOID:

  • Matching outfits- coordinating does not mean everyone needs to wear the same pieces

  • Everyone dressing in the same color- you will end up looking like a family blob in the group shots

  • Busy patterns- instead go for texture for visual interest.

  • Clothing with logos or font

  • Florescent colors that can cast colors onto your skin

  • Worn out, dirty shoes (yes, your feet will show in photos!)- sometimes barefoot is the answer!

Suggestions:

Flowy tops and dresses, oversized sweaters and fabrics with texture are a great options for my postpartum mamas.

Relaxed Style

Traditional/Posed against Solid Backdrops

Barefoot is beautiful.

Simple neutral tank tops are great or bodysuits. Check out the Kimono and lace top options as well!

Dads and Kids

A solid colored shirt that compliments what mom is wearing is always great! Barefoot or black socks are recommended.

Diaper covers or shorts under sister’s dress is recommended! Tights are great option too!

For Baby: I have all different colors of wraps, dresses and outfits you can choose from!
